People in New Zealand in general are very casual dressers. In summer men wear shorts with a t-shirt. Women tend to wear short shorts and some kind of top. Jandals are extremely popular in the summer.
In winter women wear very tight leggings, jeggings, yoga pants, or very tight skinny jeans. Most women wear very tight pants here. Men wear jeans side by side but usually not jeans which is something as tight as women but most men do not wear jeans under their hips as you see in the USA. New Zealand men at least wear jeans that sit on their hips even if they are not tight.
Both women and men wear closed-toe shoes during the winter months. Further south in winter you will see more both men and women wearing coats in winter. Places like Auckland are much warmer even in winter for lots of heavy coats.
Women often wear dresses or super skinny skirts but depending on where they are going. If they are going out to dinner or if they are going out to the ladies of the club, perhaps a dress will often bring a super skinny skirt or very tight skinny jeans. Men should wear a great button-up shirt with a good pair of jeans and sleeves that sometimes have short sleeves or long sleeves depending on how casual or formal he wants his shirt to be.
Not a huge fan of New Zealand suits etc. and only wears them when they need to come out of them and who loves to read in something more comfortable and casual.
New Zealanders don’t really care what other people wear. We have the attitude to wear what you want and wear what I want.
