The third-largest tourist destination in China is the Forbidden City. Every year many tourists come here to visit. The forbidden city was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987 and was listed as the largest collection of antique wooden structures preserved by UNESCO. It is located in the capital of China Beijing. Currently, it is a palace museum. For nearly 500 years, it has served as the official and political center of the Chinese government, along with the emperors and their families. This city was a Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty.

The forbidden city has been under the royal palace museum Since 1925, whose huge collection of artwork and handicrafts has been built on the imperial collection of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The former collection of the museum is now housed at the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Both museums were initially buildings of the same institution, but after the Chinese Civil War, it was split into two.
