Niels Bohr Biography Summary
Neil Bohr is one of the pioneers and renowned physicists of the modern theory of atomic formation. He was born on 7 October 1885 in Copenhagen, Denmark, the second of three children of Christian Bohr. His mother Ellen Adler Bohr. Niles Bohr presented the "Bohr Model" of the atom in 1913. He demonstrates that atoms are a positive nucleus and the electron particles circulating around it, where electrons are rotating around the nucleus, just like the solar system around the nucleus. Bohr's nuclear model has become famous in the history of chemistry. The physicist, 1922, received the Nobel Prize in Physics 1922. He is also known as an important physicist. During the 1930s, Bohr helped refugees from Nazism. In September 1943, word reached Bohr that he was about to be arrested by the Germans, and he fled to Sweden. Then he joined the British Tube Alloys nuclear weapons project and was part of the British mission to the Manhattan Project. Bohr called for international cooperation on nuclear energy and the establishment of CERN.
The Research Institute of the Danish Atomic Energy Commission, Riso, and the first chairman of the Nordic Institute for theoretical physics in 1957. Bohr has spent her childhood in Copenhagen. The second of three children of Christian Bohr was Niels Bohr. Her father was a professor of physiology at the University of Copenhagen. Bohr was a passionate footballer as well, and the two brothers played several matches for the Copenhagen-based AkademiskBoldklub Academic Football Club.
Bohr was educated at Gammelholm Latin School, starting when he was seven. Bohr completed his undergraduate at Copenhagen University. His major was physics, which he studied under Professor Christian Christiansen, the university's only professor of physics at that time. He studied astronomy and mathematics under Professor Thorvald Thiele.
As a doctoral student, Bohr J.J. Worked under Thomson. Studied under Ernest Rutherford at the University of Manchester, England. Motivated by the Rutherford theory of atomic structure, Bohr published a revolutionary model of atomic structure in 1913.
In 1916 Bohr became a professor of physics at Quelpiegen University. In 1920, he was named director of the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the University. He was involved with the Danish Atomic Energy Commission's CERN and the establishment of the Research Establishment Riso. In 1957 he was elected the first chairman of the Nordic Institute of Theoretical Physics.
