    Manmohan Singh has taken over as the 14th Prime Minister of India. On May 22, 2004, he began his first working day as the Prime Minister of the first Manmohan Singh cabinet. Manmohan Singh was re-elected as the Prime Minister of India on May 22, 2009, following the victory of the Indian National Congress in the 2009 general election. He was born on September 26, 1932, in Punjab (British India). His father's name is Gurmukh Singh and his mother Amrit Kaur. Here is given Manmohan Singh short biography-

    Manmohan Singh is an economist by profession. He was the administrator of the Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985, co-chair of the Planning Commission of India from 1985 to 1987, and the finance minister of India from 1991 to 1996. Then in 1991, Prime Minister Narasimha Rao was appointed Finance Minister in Cabinet.

    Manmohan Singh was unexpectedly nominated as the Prime Minister of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition led by the National Congress of India after the 2004 general election. On 22 May 2004, he was sworn in as Prime Minister of the first Manmohan Singh cabinet. For the first five years, the Cabinet of Manmohan Singh laid special emphasis on eliminating government economic turmoil, relieving the debt of poor farmers and industrial-economy and tax policies.

    The real religious foreign policy adopted by Manmohan Singh's government, Narasimha Rao, followed by the BJP's Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. So maintained. The Prime Minister maintains the policy of the peace process with Pakistan adopted by his predecessor, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

    Manmohan Singh was re-elected as the Prime Minister of India on May 22, 2009, following the victory of the Indian National Congress in the 2009 general election. He was the first Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru, who was re-elected after serving a full five years.

    Education

    Manmohan Singh lost his mother at an early age. He is looked after by his grandparents. He was a very talented student. There was no electricity in their village so he had to learn to write in the lantern.  He received a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Economics from Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1952 and 1954 respectively. As a college student, he earned a DPhil degree from the University of Oxford in 1962.

    In 1997, the University of Alberta awarded him an honorary doctorate degree in law. In June 2006, the University of Oxford awarded him an honorary Doctor of Civil Law doctoral title in Common Law. He was awarded the same title by the University of Cambridge in October of that year. In honor of him, the University of St. John arranged for a Ph.D. scholarship in his name, "Dr. Manmohan Singh Scholarship".

    Career

    After completing his studies, he worked for UNCTAD from 1966 to 1969. In the 70s, he taught at Delhi University and was secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Foreign Trade in the Government of India. He was appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of India in 1982 and held the post till 1985. He was the President of the Indian Planning Commission from 1985 to 1987.

    He was nominated as the Finance Minister of India in 1991. From 1998 to 2004, when there was the Bharatiya Janata Party government, Singh was the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha. In the 2004 general election, the Indian National Congress won the most seats in the Lok Sabha. He was sworn in as Prime Minister on 22 May 2004, the first non-Hindu and Sikh religion.

    Manmohan Singh was re-elected as the Prime Minister of India in the 2009 Lok Sabha's 15th general election.  At that time, Congress formed its government with the support of 322 members out of 543 members of the Lok Sabha.

    Personal Life

    Shri Singh married Gursharan Kaur in 1958. They have three daughters. Upinder Singh Jamm June 22, 1959, Daman Singh, Amrit Singh Jamm 1969.

    Honor & Awards

    Manmohan Singh was one of the well-honorable personalities in the world as the Prime Minister of India. He has received two awards in his personal life-
